Chattanooga Leadership Foundation, Kingdom Partners, Aligns With Community Partners To Launch Mentoring Collective

Leadership Foundations is pleased to report how our Charity to Change initiative is already helping to unleash and unlock the resources of local churches working together to bring about change in their city.

Launched in the fall of 2021, Charity to Change gathers cohorts of congregations within LF member cities who spend a year together learning what it looks like to move from a Charity mindset of community engagement to one that seeks to bring about long-term, transformational Change.

While building collaborative relationships, congregational cohorts are exposed to diverse theologians, urban practitioners and leaders, as they deepen their understanding of their own communities.

As a capstone to their Charity to Change experience, congregations identified the opportunity to launch the Mentoring Collective – a collaboration amongst community partners to better relationally serve young people through formal mentoring relationships.

Partners include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, City of Chattanooga Youth and Family Development Centers, Community Forward Schools and United Way of Greater Chattanooga.

Oliver Richmond, president of Kingdom Partners shared his enthusiasm about this new initiative: “This is the first big idea to come out of charity to change churches cohort. We believe relationships are one of the keys to helping our youth flourish in life.”

Through this collaboration, local mentoring organizations will receive high-quality evidence-based training for their mentors, ensuring that youth are set up for success in school and life.

We are so encouraged by the collaborative work of the church community in Chattanooga, along with the leadership represented in Kingdom Partners!

What book, movie, quote, or tv show has most shaped your understanding of leadership or the city?

A quote that has shaped my understanding of leadership and the city is, “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly now, love mercy now, walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”

While the amount of work there is to do to transform cities is great, this quote reminds me that we are freed from having to complete it all, though our obligation to continue remains. We may never see a huge transformation in our lifetime. The work stretches far beyond us. However, this does not make our acts of faithfulness in the day to day less significant, no matter how small they may seem.
