Leadership Foundations

The Board of Directors of the Leadership Foundations’ Global Office is pleased to announce the appointment of Rev. Dr. Larry Lloyd as its third president. As the Board of Directors began seeking a new president as part of the succession process, it became clear that the organization had the leader it needs for such a time as this.

Dr. Lloyd’s breadth and depth of leadership experience within Leadership Foundations over nearly four decades positions him to guide LF and its global membership into its next stage of organizational growth and impact. Highlights of Dr. Lloyd’s career include:

  • Founding the Memphis Leadership Foundation

Founding the Memphis Leadership Foundation in 1986, he turned over the reins to Howard Eddings in 1997 when he created the Christian Community Foundation of Memphis which actively manages over $500 Million in donor-advised funds

  • University President

After serving as the president of Crichton College from 2004 until 2009, he returned to MLF in 2009

  • Launching Over 30 Ministries

Helping to launch over 30 ministries, programs, and nonprofit organizations through MLF that continue to serve vulnerable people and meet critical needs in the Memphis community

  • Establishing the Network Impact and Member Services Office

Establishing the Network Impact and Member Services office for the LF Global Network, ensuring that LF continues in its mission-centric focus of serving our global network of affiliates

  • Authoring Recovering From Racism

Authoring the book Recovering From Racism in 2014, an incisive exploration of how urban ministry must address deep-seated racial inequities in order to be truly transformational

  • Masters in Divinity, Doctorate in Ministry

Dr. Lloyd holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Rhodes College, a Masters in Divinity from Fuller Seminary and a Doctorate in Ministry from Fuller Seminary

With deep trust already established within our network, and a proven track record of effective leadership, we are both confident in Dr. Lloyd’s leadership and excited for where he will take the organization in the years to come.

What book, movie, quote, or tv show has most shaped your understanding of leadership or the city?

A quote that has shaped my understanding of leadership and the city is, “Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly now, love mercy now, walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”

While the amount of work there is to do to transform cities is great, this quote reminds me that we are freed from having to complete it all, though our obligation to continue remains. We may never see a huge transformation in our lifetime. The work stretches far beyond us. However, this does not make our acts of faithfulness in the day to day less significant, no matter how small they may seem.
